Masterworks Singers Newsletter Spring 2025 No. 1
Dear People,

The purpose of this Newsletter is mainly to greet you and inform you about the upcoming Spring semester. I will be more brief than usual in this Newsletter because I am mainly typing with just one hand. I took a tumble a couple of weeks ago, and tomorrow I go into surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff
and detached bicep tendon on my right shoulder. I will still be able to handle the Spring, but you will see me in a sling at the beginning. I appreciate the good wishes I have received and I thank you all for your kindness and patience.
THE MUSIC FOR THIS SPRING SEMESTER:
We are going to perform one of the most beautiful new works composed in the last few years. The uplifting performances of The Gift of Life by John Rutter, and
the wonderful accomplished performance of Magnificat by Taylor Scott Davis have brought new audience members into the awareness that this wonderful community of singers we call Masterworks, is truly bringing "Peace through Music".
I am thrilled to announce the Spring Major work will be Illuminare by Elaine Hagenberg, with full chamber orchestra accompaniment. This work is centered around the concepts of Hope and Light. It has received rave reviews from
singers and audiences, and now it is our turn to enjoy the experience of singing it together.
THE REHEARSAL SCHEDULE BEGINS... On Thursday evening January 23 at 7:00 pm in St. Theresa's Sanctuary. I initially planned on starting a week earlier, at our normal January week, but I must allow at least one more week post-surgery.
OUR SPRING PERFORMANCES ARE SCHEDULED FOR...
Performance Number One will be
Sunday evening May 4, 2025 at 7:30 in St. Theresa's Sanctuary.
Perfomance Number Two will be either Thursday evening May 8, or Friday evening May 9, at St. Catherine of Sienna Church. That date will be made definite within the next week.
This is a slightly different type of schedule than we have had in other Spring semesters. The plan is to perfom twice in close succession rather than having several weeks in between. This will allow
for a longer work process through the Spring and the energy of two close performances.
For now that is all the news. Very soon we will have digital copies of the music up on Edublogs as well as the first round of individual part-specific learning tracks for you to practice.
As always, I invite each of you to communicate with friends and relatives who enjoy music to come along and join this amazing community! We are always open to new members,
and it is so exciting to share our music with the special people in our lives.
Blessings to all,
Morris
